Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, which is also known
as Beethoven's Piano Sonata #14 was written in 1801 and consists of 3 movements. It was dedicated to Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, with whom he was deeply in love. Its original
title was Quasi una Fantasia. In 1832, the poet Ludwig Rellstab compared the music to 'moonlight shining on a lake.' Since then, it became known as the

Beethoven began the preliminary work on his Missa Solemnis in D, Op.123 - ,
preliminary work on the Missa Solemnis in the beginning of 1819. The Kyrie (mvmt1) and Gloria (mvmt2) were composed primarily during 1819 and 1820, and he finished the Gloria
before the opening theme of the Credo was developed. In August 1821, Beethoven began work on the Credo(mvmt3), and then he completed the Credo, Sanctus(mvmt4), and Agnus
Dei(mvmt5) before August 1822. He exacted major revisions to the Credo and especially the Agnus Dei. |
